The picture on the left is my Day 1 photo and the other is today (5 months). My locks are finally sealing on the ends (locking) and they have swollen and are much thicker. I really like that part because I don't have so much scalp showing anymore.

Since my last post I've gone thru a learning process. I've had a few locks that were really thin in the middle and they either broke off or my consultant cut them off. My husband probably thought I was psycho when I was in full tears when I realized that they were going to break off. I think I may have been a little hormonal that day. I learned now that it is not uncommon for this to happen and its just hair and it will grow back. I'm still having to bundle and band when I wash and I'm not crazy about that because the bands sometimes get caught in the ends of my locks when I try to remove them.

First Wash

I finally got the go ahead to wash my hair. Look forward to some pics in my next post!

My Sisterlock Consultation

Woo Hoo! I just finished my initial meeting with my Sisterlock Consultant. I could not be more excited!! After answering all my questions, she installed 3 tiny test locks. I then had one final question.... How much is this going to cost me? Well since my hair is 4 inches or less, I qualified for the lowest/base price. $500. I've paid $300 plenty of times for hair that was not my own and would need to be completely redone in about 2 months. This is a BARGIN!! Well we checked our calendars and set the date(s). My babies are due to be born March 22nd and 23rd! 19 days away! It will be just as hard for me as waiting to deliver a real baby. I will post my before and after shots when the day comes!

Countdown to "Lock-down"

In a matter of just a few weeks I came to the decision that maybe this "natural hair thing" could be good for me. I have made several changes in my life so far this year. I finally found a way of eating that is allowing me to drop 2 to 3 lbs a week effortlessly. At this rate I should be down to my goal weight by my 44th birthday this August 27th. I'm getting my body into the best shape of my life and now I want to do the same for my hair.

I have never "loved" my hair. As a young girl I was always teased about not having much hair. The word baldheaded still causes me to cringe when I hear it. Children can be so cruel. My mother was not the best hairdresser either. I have school pictures from elementary school that would prove that fact. Since I've been old enough to handle my own haircare, I've put my hair through many changes. My hair is what you would call "fine". I always refer to it as cottonball hair. I relaxed it for most of my years and most of the time I did it myself at home. Then I got into hair weaves, ponytails and individual braids. All of which my fine hair didn't care for. I knew it was damaging my hair but the alternative would have been to wear my own hair! OMG, I could never do that. I decided to stop relaxing my hair and to texturize it instead. My hair loved the constant moisture and for the first time that I could remember, it started growing. I could still pull my hair up to make the smallest little ponytail and then attach a ponytail piece. I have done this now for about 1 year and my hair is longer than I've ever seen it. I now want to be able to wear my own hair and not need the ponytail piece or a wig . I looked into dreadlocks on the internet and heard a lot of women talking about Sisterlocks. I checked out the website and I have never looked back. I found a Sisterlock consultant here in San Antonio and called her up. Tomorrow is my consultation and I'm sooooooo excited. I can't wait to get this journey started.
